Posted May 25, 2018 05:17:00 Netflix Australia has announced it is ending its partnership with Warner Bros. after 20 years.
In a statement to the company’s shareholders on Thursday, Netflix said it was no longer in a position to provide the services of its Netflix Originals, a move that it said was necessary in order to continue developing its own original content.
Warner Bros. had long been the most profitable video streaming service in Australia.
The company had recently released a series of original series that included War, which follows a war between Australians and Australian soldiers.
Netflix said that in 2021, Warner Bros would no longer be able to access Netflix Originations.
“We are not in a financial position to continue providing Netflix Origination services, including the Netflix Originating service, with any additional funding from the Warner Bros Group,” the statement said.
“Warner is no longer financially able to continue investing in Netflix Originated content.”
While we have continued to invest in and promote its original content, it is now time to move forward with our original content strategy and invest in other content, like the new Netflix Originator.
“Warner Brothers Netflix Originates have been one of the company of its main sources of revenue.
Its main competitor, Amazon, has long offered its own streaming service to many customers, including Australians.
Amazon has not confirmed if it will offer Netflix Origines.

Netflix Originals are the best way for Australians to access original, independent content from our industry-leading partners,” it said.

Warner Bros had not commented on the company.
