Box office:Warcraft 3 has a $1.5M weekend on its debut in China.
It’s the first new Warner Bros. release since the release of the Warcraft film in 2011.
It will be a $100M opening weekend for Warner Bros., which will see the sequel earn $1B in its first weekend in China, up from $726.6M.
Warcraft 2 earned $971.6m in China on its first Friday and $1,074M domestically.
That puts it on pace to make $2.5B in China alone by the end of the year.
It was a solid performance for the sequel.
Warner Bros. has a bigger lead on Universal’s Warcraft 3, which is the only film to have grossed more than $1 billion in North America.
Universal has a better track record than Warner Bros in China and the second-biggest film in the United States is looking to make even more in the coming weeks.
Warrior Men was released last month and earned $876.4M in its opening weekend.
That’s a new low for Universal and a sign that the sequel will not be profitable.
Warriors Men was produced by Universal Studios, which had a lead role in the sequel’s production.
Universal Studios CEO Michael Lynton has said the sequel could be profitable in the short term.
Warman Brothers made a similar gamble with its own Warcraft film, but it fell short.
The movie has earned $1 million in its third weekend.
