By Steve Langasek – 7 October 2014 12:12:49I have spent a good deal of time on the forums and the official Blizzard forums, so it’s nice to finally have some official news.
The official announcement comes via a tweet from the Blizzard PR team.
Warcraft 3 is coming to consoles, PC, Mac and Linux this autumn.
Blizzard also released a trailer of the game this afternoon.
The trailer opens with the hero of the main story (who is revealed as Illidan Stormrage) on the battlements of Mount Hyjal.
He is dressed in the armor of the Burning Legion, which is described as a dark red cloak with a gold-coloured pattern, which has the word “DARKNESS” written across the front.
It also includes the line “You’ve come to my door, but I will kill you.”
The trailer also includes some of the other characters who will be featured in the game: the orcish commander Grommash Hellscream, a powerful wizard named Magtheridon, and a warrior named Daelin Proudmoore.
Illidan, who appears to be a powerful warlock, also appears in the trailer, but it’s not clear whether this is a new class or simply a re-skin.
The Warcraft III website describes the game as a “class-based action RPG”.
The Warcraft III Wiki explains that Illidan is “a highly skilled warlock who wields powerful magical and ranged attacks”.
The trailer reveals a character called Malfurion Stormrage, who is a powerful commander of the orc tribe of Lordaeron.
Malfurion’s armour is described by Blizzard as “red, purple and gold with gold accents”.
Malfus is voiced by Jeff “Kraze” Pugh, who voiced the other main characters from Warcraft 3, Tyrande Whisperwind, Kalecgos, Illidan and Garrosh Hellscrew.
Warlocks from Warcraft III were voiced by John D’Elia and Jock Brody.
“Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne” is due out on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in autumn 2015.
